Elizabeth Anne (Betsy) Asimos died Sunday, August 12, 2007, after losing her battle with cancer.
Mrs. Asimos, formerly from Chadds Ford, Pa., retired to North Carolina in 2001 with her husband of 49 years. She enjoyed genealogy, golfing, bird watching, traveling, cooking and above all entertaining friends and family.
She was a member of many organizations over the years, including the Society of Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Chadds Ford Historical Society, where she had served on the board of directors and as chairperson of the Chadds Ford Days Fair.
She is survived by her husband, George Asimos, and their three children, George Asimos Jr. of West Chester, Pa., David L. Asimos of Dayton, Ohio, Carol Anne Clark of Harrisonburg, Va.; a brother, Ralph L. Sharp of Chester County, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
Services were held today (Wednesday) at Trinity United Methodist Church, Southport, with the Rev. Skip Williams officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Pa.

Miss Elsie Mazie Aunkst and Ernest Henry Zierden, both well known West End young people, were united in marriage Tuesday by the Rev. H. A. Silvis at the M.E. Parsonage here.
The bride was attired in white silk wedding dress with blue accessories. Attendants were Billy Mowery and Miss Hazelle Aunkst, a sister of the bride, who wore a blue dress.
Wedding festivities included a supper served at the home of the bride’s parents.
The couple will make their future residence here.
Out of town guests who attended the wedding were Mrs. Bennie Wennin and Andrew Kuppelwiser, both of Sinnemahoning.

ZIERDEN RITES WERE HELD WEDNESDAY
Funeral services for Ernest Zierden, 63, were held at 2pm Wednesday at the Ubel Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Rippin of the Untied Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Wardvale Methodist Cemetery.
He died Sunday afternoon in the Ridgway hospital after a three month illness when he was a resident at Elk Haven.
He was born June 20th, 1917, in Rolfe, he was the son of Leonard and Lena Steudler Zierden.
He was a life long resident of Johnsonburg and a retired employee of Penntech Papers Inc. Mr. Zierden was a member of the Moose, Elks and Piedmont Clubs and a social member of the American Legion.
Surviving are one son, Gary Zierden of Crafton, Md; three grandsons, one brother, Lt. Col. Merle E. Sprague of Rockville, Md.; and six sisters, Mrs. William Swanson (Margaret) of Johnsonburg, Mrs. Robert Ashby (Genevieve) of Upper Marlboro, Md., Mrs. Gordon Wriggle (Matilda) of Severna Park, Md., Mrs. Andrew Patrick (Marion) of Johnsonburg, Mrs. Nelson Phelps (Beryl) of Silver Springs, Md. and Mrs. Regis Barwin (Dorothy) of Johnsonburg.

JOHNSONBURG–William Arthur Swanson, 83, of 422 Mill Street, died Monday evening at Elk County Regional Medical Center, Ridgway, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 22, 1913, in Wilcox, a son of William M. and Ingrid Louise Johnson Swanson. On May 7th, 1937 he married Margaret Anna Zierden, at his father’s home on Mill Street. She survives. Mr. Swanson was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg. He attended West End and Johnsonburg schools. He had been employed by the Johnsonburg Wood Yard for five years. He had also been employed by Penntech Papers for 39 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Johnsonburg Methodist Church. He loved books and collecting wooden planes. In addition to his wife , he is survived by a daughter Sonya Louise, wife of Wm. Elmquist of Johnsonburg; two grandsons, Jeffrey Allan Elmquist of Johnsonburg and William Joseph Elmquist of Laurel, Md., two great grandchildren Donna Nicole Wonderling and Anthony James Wilson, one great grand daughter Raven Bridget St. Clair. and one brother Edward Robert Swanson of Johnsonburg. SAN FRANCISCO – (AP) — Dean H. (Pete) Winslow Jr., North Beach poet who was a former Seattle newspaperman, died here yesterday at Kaiser Hospital of complications following surgery. He was 38.
A graduate of the University of Washington, Winslow worked for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer before coming to this area where he became a poet and worked for the Livermore, Calif. Independent.
He has published several volumes of poetry and at the time of his death was working on a volume of essays.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; a son, Peter Dana; his father Dean H. Winslow of Kingston, Wash, and a sister, Diane Brush of Spokane.
Memorial Services are planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ascension Lutheran church, 19th and Dolores Sts.

John Colbourn Winslow of 420 N. Casey Key Rd., Osprey Fla. Died Friday, Dec 2 1983 in their Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Mr. Winslow was born in Punxsutawney and moved to Florida from Stamford, Conn in 1951. He founded Winslow Construction Co, of Osprey Fla., in 1951, Winslow Marine Life Raft Co, in Osprey in 1955 and perfected the M16 military rifle in 1963. His company is presently manufacturing.

Venice, Fla; founder of and first commodore of the Venice Yacht Club; honorary member of the Sarasota Rifle Club and holds membership in the Field Club and Princeton Club. He graduated from Princeton University in 1934. Surviving relatives include: his wife Mary Alice Winslow of Osprey, one son John Colbourn Winslow Jr of Atlanta Ga; one daughter Ann Winslow Donelly of Providence RI; one brother Samuel R, Winslow of New York MNY; one sister Anna Martha Hughes of Gladwyne; and one grandson. Services were held Tuesday, Dec 6 at St marks Episcopal; Church in Venice with Fr Calvin L. Davis officiating The family suggest that donations be made in Mr. Winslow’s memory to the Venice Health Foundation, 108 Gold Dr. Venice Fl., 33595.

Mary Alice Amory Winslow of Casey Key died on Aug. 5 at her home after a long illness.
A private service will be at a later date. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is handling arrangements.
Mary Alice was born in New York on Sept. 23, 1916, the daughter of the late Nellie Dawson Moore Amory and Eugene Horton Amory of Bronxville, N.Y.
Mary Alice graduated from Miss Porter’s School of Farmington, Conn., and Finch College in New York.
She and her husband, the late John Colburn Winslow, were among the founders of the Venice Yacht Club and charter members of the Field Club. Since 1979, Mary Alice had been a member of Founders Garden Club of Sarasota, and had served as its second vice president from 1985 to 1987.
She is survived by her son, John C. Winslow Jr. of Sarasota; her daughter, Ann Winslow Donelly, and her son-in-law, Norbert P. Donelly of Osprey; her granddaughter, Amory Winslow McAndrew of New York; her grandson, Norbert Rogan Donelly of Boston; and her nieces, Amory Millard and Bonnie Regendahl, both of New York.
