Mt. Zion Church - Elk County’s First Protestant Church
Bennett’s Valley, PA
On October 14, 1784 Harriet Pearsall deeded a lot for the Mt. Zion church to be known as a Baptist Union meeting house. It was to establish a house of worship on the condition that this meeting house would be open and free for people of all evangelical denominations. The history of Mt. Zion church which is the first Protestant church in Elk County goes back to the mid 1800s and the Pearsall family.
